Officer opens fire after suspect hits fellow officer

PHARR, TX – According to KRGV, a McAllen police officer opened fire after a suspect hit another officer with his car.

The incident took place at a car wash at Cage Road and Hall Acres Road. The suspect, Hector Garza, 44, had an outstanding burglary warrant against him, leading an officer to attempt an arrest. The police officer reached into Garza’s vehicle, but Garza put the car into reverse before driving forward and pinning the officer against a wall. The suspect then fled the vehicle while another officer shot at him.

Garza was later arrested and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer who initially tried to arrest the suspect sustained severe injuries to his left arm, hand, and shoulder.

This incident remains under investigation at this time.
