Update: 3 dead after fiery 5-vehicle crash on I-10 in Seguin

SEGUIN, TX – Three people were killed in a fiery collision that also shut down eastbound I-10 for more than 12 hours, KSAT reports.

This is an update to our earlier reporting.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon on eastbound  I-10 near the SH 123 Bypass, when a semi truck somehow spilled its cargo of meat products onto the roadway, causing it to become dangerously slick. A second truck traveling the same direction attempted to swerve out of the way, but instead collided with a guardrail and then a passenger vehicle, which burst into flames.

Five vehicles were ultimately involved in the chain-reaction collision, killing three people. The truck hauling the meat products was not a part of the subsequent crash.

Authorities are continuing to investigate, and we should have more details soon.
