Report claims multiple factors led to fatal pipeline explosion

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – A federal investigation revealed inadequate risk management, communication, and planning were factors that led to a fatal explosion that killed five people in August 2020, according to ABC 17.

The blast happened when the dredging vessel Waymon L Boyd, owned by the Orion Marine Group, cut into a pipeline owned by Enterprise Products.

Of the 18 crew members on the vessel, 3 died at the scene. A person from an adjacent anchor barge also died. Six others were hospitalized. One of the six would later die there.

The National Transportation Safety Board released these findings Tuesday.
