Impaired driver causes fatal 3-vehicle crash at FM 1015 and 18th St

WESLACO, TX – A person is dead following a three-vehicle crash caused by a suspected impaired driver at FM 1015 and 18th St on Saturday.

According to Valley Central, officers from Progresso Police Department attempted to pull over a woman driving a Ford Explorer on suspicion of DUI when she fled the scene at a high rate of speed north on FM 1015 towards Weslaco.

The woman slammed into a Kia Optima driven by Jaime Elias Garcia, 18, in Weslaco. The impact sent the Kia into the intersection of FM 1015 and 18th St. The driver of a Honda Pilot then collided with Garcia.

Emergency crews responded to the crash site around 7:31 p.m. They pronounced Garcia dead at the scene of the accident. First responders transported the people from the Pilot and the Explorer to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers have detained the driver of the Explorer and will charge her in connection with the crash.

The incident is under investigation by the Weslaco Police Department.
