Man pleads guilty to fatally striking a pregnant woman on N Alamo Rd

EDINBURG, TX – A man pleaded guilty to charges of an accident involving death and evidence tampering in connection with a fatal crash on N Alamo Rd last summer.

According to KURV, Carlos Santiago Rodriguez, 45, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado on northbound N Alamo Rd near Economedes High School when he collided with two women who were standing by their vehicle that had run of out gas.

One of the women, Lorena Perez, 18, was eight months pregnant at the time of the collision. Rescue crews transported her to an area hospital where she and her unborn child died.

Following the crash, Rodriguez fled the scene of the accident. He turned himself into authorities two days later.
