Teen dies when drunk driver crashes into Pharr apartment

PHARR, TX – A teenager was killed and another child was injured when a suspected drunk driver crashed into their apartment early yesterday morning, KRGV reports.

The fatal crash happened at an apartment complex in the 200 block of N Veterans Boulevard at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday, June 28. Jesus Cruz, 22, lost control of his black Chevrolet Equinox, which collided with the building and injured a 16- and a 12-year-old inside.

The 16-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they died. The 12-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police plan to charge Cruz with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. Further investigations are ongoing.
