San Antonio an crushed by Union Pacific train on East Side

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A San Antonio man was killed after being crushed by a train east of downtown in the early morning hours Thursday.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. when the Union Pacific train came to a stop within the 1200 block of Pine Street to be doubled-up.

When the engineer began to move forward again,  the train came to an abrupt stop as the emergency brake was engaged. He then exited the locomotive to see what the problem was and discovered a man in his 30s had been run over.

Investigators believe the man was attempting to cross the tracks under one of the cars when the train began moving again and struck him.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed against the engineer at this time.
