ABOUT THE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS STREET FESTIVAL
Now in its 16th year, the Día De Los Muertos Street Festival has become one of Corpus Christi’s most popular events. It has been recognized as a top Dia De Los Muertos Celebration in the United States. The street festival has also been voted the best festival in The Bend Magazine’s Local’s List for seven years running from 2016 to 2022.
The event’s goals are to celebrate and honor the rich cultural heritage of Mexico and South Texas, educate and unite the community, draw tourists and residents to downtown Corpus Christi, and promote the city. As Corpus Christi’s most anticipated fall event, the Día De Los Muertos Street Festival has brought life, music, and culture into the downtown community since 2008.
The 2023 Día De Los Muertos Street Festival will be held on Saturday, October 28, from 3 p.m. to midnight. They will present live entertainment on three stages: Latin-influenced rock and pop music, Mariachis, Ballet Folklorico, cultural dancers, youth performers, local DJs, and regional up-and-coming bands. The event will include a Hecho a Mano Art Expo, Kids’ activities, an Ofrenda display in the Ritz Theater, art exhibitions and demonstrations, food, drinks, and more.
Exhibits
Hecho-a-Mano Art Expo
This juried art expo features high-quality fine arts and crafts, jewelry, and Día de los Muertos-themed items by over 85 vendors. TAMUCC and Del Mar College students will present various art processes, display architectural designs, and perform at the event.
Youth Art Exhibit
K Space Contemporary will host a fine art exhibit of themed works, a Youth Art Exhibit, and a youth piñata contest for K-12 groups called Extravagancia de Piñatas. Prizes will be awarded to competing K-12 groups for piñatas that receive the highest number of votes by the public. The kids’ corner includes crafts, games, youth entertainment, and other fun activities for children.
The Walk of Remembrance Ofrenda Display
The Walk of Remembrance Ofrenda Display will be held at the Ritz Theater downtown. Every year, community members and youth groups create this Ofrenda to honor deceased Coastal Bend residents and a tribute area where visitors may honor loved ones.
The street festival occurs in downtown Corpus Christi on Chaparral, Starr, Mesquite, Taylor, and Peoples Streets. Costumes are encouraged! Get your face painted, adorn your hair with floral headbands, shop, enjoy delicious food at one of our 25 food vendors, and dance the night away at their festive music stages.
