LA PORTE, TX – Residents of La Porte have been ordered to shelter in place after a chemical leak at Rohm & Haas Chemical Plant, KRIS TV reports.
The plant, which is a subsidiary of Dow Chemical Company released the chemical hydroxyethyl acetate.
Local government officials are encouraging residents to remain in their homes with the doors and windows shut to avoid exposure. They have also been asked to turn off their air-conditioners until further notice.
Officials from Dow claim that the effects of the leak are contained to their facility.
