Tanker crewmember transported to Corpus Christi for treatment

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – A sick crewmember was taken to Station Port Aransas following a medical emergency on the Bahamas-flagged Karvounis last week, Marine Link reports.

Coast Guard units received a cellphone call from the ship at about 2:15 p.m. on February 9, and were told that the 53-year-old man may have suffered a stroke. A helicopter and a response boat were dispatched to the tanker, which was stationed about nine miles off the coast. The man was loaded onto the response boat and taken to Station Port Aransas, where a medical crew was waiting.

The man’s current condition is unknown.
