Man arrested after driving wrong way down Whitecap Boulevard and fleeing from police

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – According to KIIITV, police have taken a man into custody after he drove the wrong way down Whitecap Boulevard and fled from police.

Police noticed a car driving the wrong direction on Whitecap Blvd. at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. An officer attempted to pull the car over, but its driver, Charles Bird, refused to stop.

The driver then led police on a chase before Bird exited the vehicle and jumped in a canal to avoid police. He was then pulled out of the water and arrested.

Bird has now been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest on Foot, and Driving While Intoxicated.
