Injuries reported in suspected Corpus Christi DUI crash

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Officials with the Corpus Christi Police Department have a suspect in custody following an alleged drunk driving accident that sent another person to the hospital.

According to KRISTV, the accident occurred near the intersection of South Staples Street and Wooldridge Road at about 2:15 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene say 23-year-old Edward Mendez collided with the rear of a stopped car. The force of the initial crash sent the car into a nearby parking lot while Mendez’s vehicle crashed into a road sign.

The victim was rushed to Bay Area Hospital; their condition, as well as their identity, remains unknown. Mendez was arrested at the scene and is facing charges including intoxication assault with a vehicle, evading, and failing to identify himself to officers.
