Suspected smuggler arrested after crashing into Bexar County gas station

SAN ANTONIO, TX – One man is in custody following a Bexar Count police chase involving the Texas Department of Public Safety early Thursday morning.

The collision happened at the Exxon station on Loop 1604 near I-35 shortly after 8 a.m., according to KSAT.

Troopers began the pursuit after the suspected smuggler failed to pull over for Frio County Sheriff’s deputies. The chase lasted several miles until the driver collided with a pump at the gas station causing a small fire.

The 26-year-old male driver, who had sustained a head injury in the wreck, was taken into custody along with seven passengers who attempted to flee on foot immediately following the crash.

Six other people have since been turned in to DPS.
