VAL VERDE, TX – Eight people were killed as the result of a major head-on collision north of Del Rio on Monday.
According to KENS 5, the accident occurred along US-277. DPS agents were attempting to stop a Dodge pickup truck when it collided head-on with a Ford F-150.
Eight passengers in the Dodge were pronounced dead at the scene. They are all believed to have been undocumented immigrants.
The driver of the Dodge attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody moments later.He now faces undisclosed criminal charges.
Two occupants of the Ford were taken to a hospital in San Antonio alongside one survivor from the Dodge.
