2 dead following wrong-way collision on FM 506

CAMERON COUNTY, TX – Two people are dead and three others are injured following a wrong-way crash on FM 506 near the Cameron and Willacy County line Wednesday.

According to KRGV, Benjamin Caballero, 36, was driving a Chevrolet Spark north in the southbound lanes of FM 506 when he collided with a Chevrolet Camaro around 5:49 p.m.

First responders pronounced Caballero and a passenger from the Spark, Mario Antonio Solis Sumano, 41, dead at the scene of the accident. Another passenger from the Spark, a minor, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition with head injuries. The driver and passenger from the Camero were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
