6 killed, 3 hospitalized following violent head-on crash in Mathis

MATHIS, TX – Six people, including two San Antonio teens, were killed after a wrong-way crash along I-37 Saturday.

According to the Associated Press, the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-37 about 20 miles north of Corpus Christi.

Investigators say a vehicle carrying four men traveling southbound in the northbound lanes collided head-on with another vehicle carrying five people. All four men were killed in the crash along with one man and one woman in the northbound vehicle.

The three survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals to be treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation as of Monday evening.
