EDINBURG, TX – Police are concerned about a recent uptick in illegal street racing and say they have plans to crack down on offenders, KRGV reports.
Lt. Rey Sepulveda told reporters that street racing is both illegal and dangerous, and that his department takes these offenses seriously.
A local street racing enthusiast said that thousands of dollars may be bet on a single race, and that vehicles reach speeds approaching 150 miles per hour.
Street racing is an arrestable offense in Edinburg, with maximum fines of $1,000.
