North Texas Man Killed Following Chain-Reaction Crash on I-35 in New Braunfels

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – A man from North Texas was killed in a 3-vehicle collision involving two tractor-trailers along I-35 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to KSAT, the incident took place at about 1:45 p.m. within the northbound lanes of I-35 near FM-306.

New Braunfels Police say 39-year old Matthew Wade Patek, of Mansfield, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he collided with the rear of a gravel hauler. His Chevrolet Silverado then proceeded into a second tractor-trailer, getting lodged underneath.

Patek was pronounced dead at the scene. The 37-year-old man in the gravel hauler was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The third driver involved was unhurt.
