Sleeping driver strikes, injures woman

SAN ANTONIO – A driver who fell asleep at the wheel collided with and injured a woman on April 14, according to Fox San Antonio.

The driver of a dark-colored SUV struck Shelby Mackenzie as she was taking out her trash at 7:58 a.m. First responders transported Mackenzie to an area hospital with severe injuries, including a dissection of her internal carotid artery, a rupture of her right knee ligaments, three subdural hematomas, and two skull fractures.

Mackenzie will have to pay her medical bills since the driver who struck her had only minimal insurance and no assets.
