Update: Suspect identified in fatal hit-and-run from June 1

SAN MARCO, TX – Thanks to tips from citizens, authorities have charged a woman involved in the fatal hit-and-run from earlier this month.

According to local news, Brenda Vasquez Hurtado, 41, was the driver whole killed  42-year-old Dwight Thomas in the June 1 collision. The accident happened in the 1600 block of Post Road at about 10 p.m.

Thomas was walking in the bicycle lane with another man when he was struck by a moving vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hurtado surrendered herself to local authorities after an arrest warrant identified her as the driver of the maroon Ford Explorer that struck Thomas.

Hurtado is in custody at the Hays County Jail.
