Wrong-way impaired driver injures 2 people on Bitters Rd

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Fox San Antonio reports that a collision involving an alleged impaired driver on the 2300 block of Bitters Rd sent two people to the hospital Sunday.

At around 2 a.m., a Chevy Silverado was heading east on I-410 Access Rd when it struck the raised curb at the intersection with Bitters Rd. It continued to drive across the southbound lanes of Bitter Rd and then collided with a light pole. The truck then proceeded to go south in the northbound lanes.

The Silverado traveled the wrong way for nearly 800 feet when it collided head-on with a Honda Civic. The Silverado ignited upon impact. A bystander pulled the driver out of the flaming wreckage before emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Crews transported the two occupants of the Civic, a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Silverado was also taken to the hospital.

Police evaluated the driver of the Silverado and found him to be impaired. Officers will arrest him for two counts of intoxication assault.
