UPDATE: Teen injured in fatal pedestrian crash now in stable condition

HIDALGO COUNTY, TX – According to KURV, the teenager who was injured in a fatal pedestrian crash on Sunday has been upgraded to stable condition.

The accident took place on Owassa Road between Val Verde Road and Tower Road, when a drunk driver struck two teens as they were walking north. 15-year-old Liza Cavazos died in the accident and 14-year-old Santiago Tapiawas was seriously injured. Tapiawas’s condition has improved and is now stable.

The driver in the accident, Maricella Escobar, is currently in jail facing drunk driving and hit-and-run charges.
