SAN ANTONIO, TX – A pickup truck crashed on Loop 1604 near Bulverde Road early Tuesday morning after the driver was shot in the head.

According to KSAT, the male driver and his female passenger were driving westbound at about 12:15 a.m. when another vehicle pulled alongside their blue Dodge Ram and shot the 42-year-old man in the head. The woman was sleeping when the driver was shot.

The pickup truck was towing an RV and continued down the road for about a quarter of a mile before crashing into an off-duty police officer’s car. The officer was doing traffic control for a construction project at the time of the incident. He was able to move away from his vehicle and was uninjured in the collision.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The reason for the shooting is not yet determined. The name of the driver has been withheld until his family can be notified.
