Suspected DUI driver hits utility pole in NW San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A suspected DUI driver and female passenger were injured after their vehicle hit a utility pole near the UTSA main campus early Thursday morning.

The crash happened in the 6600 block of UTSA Boulevard around 2:30 a.m., according to KSAT.

Police report the driver, who was in his 20s, was speeding and struck the utility pole. The impact caused the middle section of the pole to go airborne and hit a car in a nearby parking lot. The vehicle continued traveling down the sidewalk for approximately 500 yards before crashing through a wooden fence.

The female passenger sustained a compound fracture to her ankle and the driver sustained unknown injuries.

Police have not charged the driver yet, but said he will likely face an intoxication assault charge.
