UPDATE: Man charged following crash with Corpus Christi police van

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – According to KIIITV, a man has been charged after crashing into a Corpus Christi police van early on Monday.

The accident took place near the county jail, at the intersection of Tancahua Street and Lipan Street. According to police, Joseph Perez, 54, ran a red light, hitting a prisoner transport van and causing it to flip on its side.

Three prisoners in the van were hospitalized following the crash but are expected to recover.

Perez has been charged with Intoxication Assault with a Motor Vehicle for his role in the crash.
