Woman charged in fatal hit-and-run crash asks for car back

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The woman that prosecutors say is responsible for a fatal 2019 hit-and-run has asked the court to return her BMW, KSAT reports.

Melissa Peoples is accused of fatally striking San Antonio-based surgeon Naji Kayruz along I-10 while she was drunk, and then fleeing the scene. Her lawyer has asked the 226th District Court to return the 2015 BMW that Peoples had been driving at the time, arguing that she has continued to make payments on the vehicle since the accident.

Prosecutors disagreed, arguing that the vehicle remained a key piece of evidence

Judge Velia Meza denied the defense’s request.
