Wrong-way driver kills 2 near General Krueger

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Two women are dead after a wrong-way driver collided with their vehicle early Saturday morning,  according to KENS 5.

At around 2:30 a.m. an unidentified 58-year-old man was driving an F-350 at speeds around 90 MPH in northeast San Antonio.

Police pursued the vehicle for about 18 miles and tried to get the driver to pull over, but the driver refused to comply.

The driver eventually struck a Nissan Rogue head-on at the intersection of I-35 and Eisenhauer Rd. The two occupants, Daniela Lute, 25, and Diana Rubio, 26, were killed in the collision.

The force of the impact caused the F-350 to roll over and catch on fire.

A witness at the scene named Matthew Estrada pulled the driver away from the flaming wreckage to safety. The driver was then hospitalized by first responders in critical condition at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Police believe impairment was a factor in the collision. If the driver survives he could be charged with multiple counts of DUI and manslaughter.
