Update: Fatal accident at Buc Stadium was on AT&T job site

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The man killed when a trench collapsed on him in front of Buc Stadium on Monday was working at an AT&T work site, City Manager Perter Zanoni said.

KRIS reports that Jason Villalobos, a 21-year-old from Houston, was killed while helping excavate a trench for a new duct run. The purpose of the duct run is not clear at this time.

The work was being done by AT&T, which contracted with St. Louis-based American Directional Boring, which in turn subcontracted with SS Construction and Drilling.

Zanoni said the extent of the city’s involvement was approving a permit to drill in the street.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated as investigations continue.
