Woman charged after hitting police cruiser with four children inside her vehicle

SAN ANTONIO, TX – According to KTXS, a woman has been charged with four counts of driving while intoxicated with a child after her SUV struck a police cruiser early Wednesday. Four children were with her in the vehicle at the time.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Anabelle Karina Hernandez-Benavidez, was heading southbound on Loop 410 near Highway 151 when traffic slowed, according to the police report.

Officials say Hernandez-Benavidez swerved to the left and subsequently collided with a parked San Antonio police cruiser. The officer had stopped his cruiser to divert traffic from another accident.

Police said Hernandez-Benavidez had to be extricated from her vehicle and was taken to a hospital. Four children inside her SUV were uninjured in the crash. The officer was treated for minor injuries.

Hernandez-Benavidez faces four counts of driving while intoxicated with a child. The children were released to their father, who came to the scene of the accident to retrieve them.
